About All India Network Project on Pesticide Residue Laboratory

All India Network Project on Pesticide Residue came into being in the year 1984-85 as a means to gain control over the usage of pesticides in crops sown in the country. This project was an initiative of Indian Council of Agricultural Research in order to develop regulatory norms for safe use of pesticides in agricultural practices. Establishing a testing facility was one their priorities which could enable the council members to examine the impacts of pesticide usage on crops and help establish the limit to which its usage could be deemed permissible. They, therefore established the facility in Nadia, West Bengal where chemical testing is undertaken on fruits, vegetables, fish, water, cereals and tea to determine how safe they are for consumption. Over years they have taken the responsibility of regulating the use of chemical and have hence actively contributed to elimination of its indiscriminate usage hazardous to the health of living beings.
