About The Marine Products Export Development Authority, Quality Control Laboratory

India and its highly auspicious seafood industry needed a firm to escalate the market promotion of Indian seafood products abroad to tap the enormous fishery potential of India. Led/supported/under by the Government of India, MPEDA had led to the formation of the Marine Products Export Promotion Council in September 1961. Under the Government of India, MPEDA plays the crucial role of promoting and developing the export of marine products and seafood. To set up headquarter, MPEDA selected Cochin, which handled about 60% of seafood exports in those days. MPEDA functions under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and performs as a integrating agency with various Central and State Government establishments hooked in fishery production and allied activities. The functions of MPEDA are influenced by an Authority and three Standing Committees of MPEDA i.e; Executive Committee, Technical Committee and Export Promotion Committee. The MPEDA’s functions are implemented through the plan schemes of the jurisdiction under six major departments viz, Market Promotion, Capture Fisheries, Culture Fisheries, Infrastructure processing & value addition, Quality control and Research & development.
