About National Institute of Wind Energy Technology(NIWE) Ministry of New and Renewable Energy

The National Wind Energy Institute (NIWE) was created in Chennai in 1998 by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the Government of India, as an independent R&D organization. It is a high-quality and dedicated knowledge-based organization that provides services and seeks to discover comprehensive alternatives to the types of problems and improvements in the entire spectrum of the wind energy industry through further studies. The Prime Minister introduced the National Solar Mission on 11 January 2010. The Mission set an ambitious target of 20,000 MW of grid-connected solar energy by 2022 to reduce the country's solar generation costs through I long-term policies; (ii) large-scale deployment targets; (iii) aggressive R&D; and (iv) national manufacturing of critical raw materials, parts and goods to attain grid tariff parity by 2022. To accomplish this goal, Mission will generate an enabling policy structure and make India a worldwide leader in solar energy. In addition, the Government revised the target of Grid Connected Solar Power Projects under the National Solar Mission from 20,000 MW by 2021-22 to 100,000 MW by 2021-22 and was approved by the Cabinet on 17 June 2015.
